It has just been such an odd few seasons. Brutally long winter, followed by random scorching hot days, followed by winter trying to return...in May!

They always predicted that global warming would bring about more severe/unpredictable weather - I suspect that's what we're seeing.

Going with youth has its own risks. A young player (lets use Kadri for the sake of argument) may not be ready for the #1 center role. They may simply not be a #1 center, remember when everyone thought Wellwood was the Leafs future #1 guy? His numbers in 06-07 are very similar to Kadri's this year.

A player like Kadri also doesn't have the experience or leadership that someone like Richards has, which is very valuable to a team whos goal is make the playoffs and win a round. Also, playing behind and with a veteran like Richards for 2-3-4 seasons isn't a bad thing for a young player either.

If they promote Kadri and it doesn't work, then they potentially miss out on a player who would/could have been better in that role

I moved here 5 yrs ago . This is by far the coldest spring I've experienced to date . Temps are 4-5 degrees below normal

Absolutely agree, DWC. Annoys me to no end that some refuse to see this and still are looking to put him into trades. Kessel is a core player and questions of his compete level should have been put to rest after this season's play. Just don't understand why some can't appreciate just what Kessel brings to the team....thank goodness they seem to be in the minority.

Kessel is an elite offensive player, and his defensive game is more than passable at this stage. I hate when people imply that him not mucking it up in the corners somehow means he's one-dimensional. He's an elite sniper, an elite playmaker, and a good 2-way player. The playoffs were a prime example of his defensive ability. He was almost always the first forward back on the backcheck on his line, and he was usually the guy on his line who covered the point when one of the Dmen decided to pinch. You don't have to be physical to be good defensively.

IMO, he already plays a big role on the team and has already proven that he's much more than a streaky sniper. No player is perfect and Kessel is only one piece of the puzzle....and a damn good one at that.

One dimensional in your eyes.....not in mine. As far as I'm concerned, he's playing a two way game and elevated his game in the playoffs. He does backcheck and he does play the boards and certainly didn't shy away from Chara in playoffs. He's young, a core player and I look forward to watching him in a Leafs jersey for many more seasons.

If the Leafs are going to pay him some 8 million a year, mgt. should tell him what he is going to be doing, not vice versa. I'm trying to imagine walking into my boss' office and telling him what I am and am not interested in dealing with. I think Kessel sells himself short, no pun intended. If he is just going to be a sniper, I think the Leafs should consider all options
